John Bradley  PCA Board Member

John Bradley

Chairman

Company: Cornerstone Management Services Ltd

In 1980 John joined his first ventilation company, Colt International, as a company trainee on a 4-year training programme. Now, over 40 years later, he’s putting the experience and knowledge he has gained over the years to good use as a Specialist Residential Ventilation Consultant.

After leaving Colt in 1992 he spent 14 years with The Nuaire Group, most of which was as Managing Director of their residential ventilation division. He then spent a number of years as Managing Director and major shareholder of a specialist independent residential ventilation company called Positive Ventilation, which provided a full consultancy, surveying, design, supply, installation, commissioning, certification and maintenance service. Prior to joining his current employer, he was Managing Director of Homevent, a division of Elta Fans.

John is a Chartered Building Engineer and has spent the vast majority of his career working in the ventilation industry, primarily focused on residential ventilation. He is currently 'Principal Technical Consultant - Residential Ventilation at Cornerstone Professional Services', which is a division of Cornerstone Management Services.

Mark Edwards - PCA Board Member

Mark Edwards

Company: Timberwise (UK) Ltd

Mark is Chairman and Director at Timberwise, a preservation and waterproofing contractor member of the PCA that operates throughout England and Wales. He has been a director in a number of different companies in a variety of industries over the last 30 years giving him wide business experience and knowledge. He has served as a director and chairman of the Property Care Association in the past and by returning to the Board he will bring new ideas, good leadership and sound guidance to the executive team. He is looking forward to making a difference and to helping the Association achieve its objectives.

Cormac Rooney - PCA Board Member

Cormac Rooney

Company: MJ Rooney Construction

Cormac qualified as a Building Surveyor in 1998 and has since worked as Construction Manager on a wide variety of projects but specialises in Basements, Temporary Works and Structural Waterproofing. Cormac holds the CSSW qualification, is listed on the Waterproofing Design Specialist Register and is a director of the family business of MJ Rooney Construction.

 

 

Richard Schofield - PCA Board Member

Richard Schofield

Company: Phlorum Ltd

Richard has been an environmental consultant for over twenty years. He started as a contamination specialist and then developed as an environmental manager. Richard co-founded Phlorum in 2003, which became a key player in the knotweed control industry.

Richard’s invasive species experience includes providing specialist advice and services to treat a range of non-native invasive species, including expert witness services for several legal cases. Richard has contributed to the working groups that produced the knotweed guidance for the RICS and numerous documents for the PCA. He also assists with the marking of examination papers for the PCA Japanese knotweed courses.

 

Ben Hickman  PCA Board Member

Ben Hickman

Company: CSSW.London

Ben Hickman is the Technical Director of CSSW.LONDON and consults on structural waterproofing including defect diagnosis, expert witness and working within design teams. The largest scheme CSSW.LONDON is currently working on, is the £1bn development at St John’s Quarter in Manchester.

He is about to complete a Masters at the University of Cambridge. His research, which has been partly funded by the PCA Bursary, has included topics such as waterproofing additives for basement concrete (presented last year) and more recently podium deck waterproofing. Ben is a Chartered Building Engineer and Chartered Construction Manager.

 

 

Robert Tiffin - PCA Board Member

Robert Tiffin

Company: Eco Tiffin

Robert Tiffin is a Director of Eco Tiffin, an expert building solutions company. Robert started his career in the industry 50 years ago as a quantity surveyor, working for large national companies such as McAlpine and Try Group, focusing on housing projects and modular system buildings before joining the family business. He has been on the London Board of the Federation of Master Builders for a number of years and is currently Vice President. An influential figure in the building world, Robert was part of the expert working group set up by the Bonfield Review for the research into Retrofit Standards in 2017. In 2019 he was invited to join the panel of experts on the Exhibition show Grand Designs and in 2020, he was asked to join two other industry experts for a Q&A consultation to the All Party Environmental Select Committee for oral evidence focusing on energy efficiency.

 

Neil Marsden  PCA Board Member

Company: Neil Marsden Independent Damp and Timber Consultants

Having progressed from a time served trade background to a well established independent preservation surveyors for the last 35 years, Neil has achieved various vocational qualifications including HND and NVQ (level 5) in Business Management, as well as various PCA Qualification’s.

In his current roles as a PCA RSO, PCA Trainer, Independent Surveyor/Consultant and Expert Witness all provide Neil with a unique insight into the diversity within our industry and what is needed to drive it forward, to meet the challenges it faces, in an ever-changing world.

 

Peter Atchison  PCA Board Member

Peter Atchison

Company: PA Geotechnical Ltd

Peter Atchison is a geosynthetic specialist with over 35 years’ experience in geomembrane and associated products. As a consultant, he specialised in contaminated land issues and offers technical and commercial consultancy support in applications of specialised materials and services aimed at the sector. He is involved in both standards setting and advice to the legislative process through involvement in a number of standards committees.

Involved in BSI committees since 1987, Peter has also worked in CEN as UK principal expert on WG6 “Geosynthetic Barriers” and ISO TC221 “Geosynthetics” where he was elected Chairman in 2017.

Peter also holds positions at the Confederation of Construction specialists where he is Chairman of the board; as well as the British Geomembrane Association (treasurer) and The Radon Council (Past Chairman). Finally, the Environmental Industries Commission where he chairs the influential Contaminated Land working group.

Peter’s influence was instrumental in the creation of an important BSI Code of practice, BS 8485, concerning the investigation and assessment of ground gases for varying development sites.

Emily Walker  PCA Board Member

Emily Walker

Company: Walker & Walker Waterproofing Ltd

Emily is currently the co-owner and co-director of Walker & Walker Waterproofing ltd, Based in Wiltshire. As a ‘self confessed waterproofing geek’, Emily draws on experience as Mining Engineers in the heavy civils industry which lead to the creation of her company that specialises in new build commercial projects.
Her philosophy has always been that ‘every day is a school day’ and she is committed to the continuous development of skills and knowledge.

 

 

Alex Brook  PCA Board Member

Alex Brook

Company: Ebsford Environmental

Alex is the invasive species technical specialist for Ebsford Environmental Ltd. He is an ecologist with over twenty years’ experience, having previously been a research scientist at the University of Reading and CAB International where he was the project manager for the first release in Europe of a classical biological control agent against Japanese knotweed.

Alex’s projects cover a diverse range of invasive species and not just the usual suspects, in sectors such as utility companies, infrastructure, developers and local government. His portfolio is not limited to the built environment, and he takes particular pride in the various projects within our native landscape including sites of special scientific interest.

Alex has also written some of the sections within the Property Care Association publication: Practical Management of Invasive Non-Native Weeds in Britain and Ireland. He is currently developing the Invasive Aquatic Weeds training programme for the Property Care Association.

Steve Hodgson - CEO - PCA

Steve Hodgson

Steve has worked for the Association for a number of years starting out as a technical specialist. He has progressed through the ranks and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in October 2012.

Sue Uttridge - PCA Staff Profile

Sue Uttridge

Sue has worked for the PCA since the move to Huntingdon in 2007. In 2010 she was appointed Company Secretary and tasked to provide administrative support to the Board of Directors, a position she still holds.

PLEASE NOTE: Sue is NOT an elected board member.  As Company Secretary of the PCA, Sue's role within the elected board is to help report on the financial position of the association and to help serve the direction and requested actions of the board.
