PCA Events in 2020 & Beyond!

As we reflect on the year that’s been and the conferences and events we have had to postpone, it came as a stark reminder that yesterday would have been our Invasive Weed Conference!

With online events becoming the ‘new normal’, Sue and Lisa take a look at what our events programme might look like for 2021. Is it the case we can no longer hold just physical conferences anymore? Members can click on the button below to read more.

CSCS Registers Ground Gas NVQ Qualification

For the past two years YOUR Association has been the sole administration centre for the ‘Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Verification of Ground Gas Protection Systems’ qualification.

We are delighted to share with members that Construction Skills Certification Scheme Ltd (CSCS) has registered this qualification for a Gold Skilled Card – with the occupation title of ‘Ground Gas Protection Validator’. This qualification enable verifiers within the ground gas sector to be represented fairly and correctly and we are really pleased to have achieved support and recognition for the ground gas verification sector.

We look forward to seeing more of our members taking full advantage of this once qualified. For more information, simply contact the training team on 01480 400000.

Government Video on Ventilation

PCA members are well aware of the importance of ventilation and a new public information campaign has been launched by the Government, highlighting how letting fresh air into indoor spaces can reduce the risk of infection from coronavirus by over 70%.

This is very pleasing to see and is exactly what PCA’s James Berry said in his recent blog where he asked, just how suitable are our homes for spending more time indoors? Is the next pandemic going to be mouldy homes?

The film is part of the ‘Hands. Face. Space’ campaign in helping to reduce the risk of the virus spreading, which members can watch by clicking on the button below.

I’m an alien insect – get me out of here!

Its a bit more of a ‘quirkier’ post than what we normally put up, but as a Trade Association coving the invasive weeds sector, to a certain degree, we are always pleased when invasive alien species become a National subject of conversation. This week we’ve seen lots of headlines in the National news – even on TV – regarding un-licenced releases of some exotic insects in ‘the jungle’ that is Abergele in North Wales!

Two academics from The Horizons Centre at Teeside University have written a useful ‘response’ to the claim by the programme’s editors that the insects were ‘not invasive’….. or were they? Its not about weeds, but all things invasive have common themes, so follow the link and see if you agree with their analysis of the ecological risks involved.

Advice for Ensuring your Premises Remains Covid-19 Safe

If any of our members have had an outbreak of coronavirus cases on your premises, or you need to prepare for people returning to your premises, a decontamination clean is recommended. This can either be carried out with fogging or the use of an ozone machine.

The importance of ventilation must not be underestimated in tackling the spread of coronavirus. It is important to ensure the air quality in your building is the best it can be, by ensuring your air ducts are clean. HVAC cleaning ensures your air conditioning/air distribution systems are being properly maintained.
