CSCS registers Ground Gas NVQ Qualification

We are delighted to share with our members that Construction Skills Certification Scheme Ltd (CSCS) has registered the ‘Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Verification of Ground Gas Protection Systems’ qualification for a Gold Skilled Card – with the occupation title of ‘Ground Gas Protection Validator’.

For the past two years, the Property Care Association has been the sole administration centre for the qualification and this is great news for the sector to have a card representative of their skill.

How important is this for the Ground Gas sector?

This is a first for the sector. Prior to not having had a qualification which grants a CSCS card, Ground Gas verifiers would only be able to gain a card through a qualification unrelated to their role. This card would not have indicated their actual qualification or specific skill.

The importance of this card must not be underestimated. It gives the owner of this qualification the ability to go onto sites with proof that correctly identifies them as a ground gas verifier.

Don’t just take our word for it. PCA member Tony Smith, MTS Ltd, believes this is important for the industry: “The qualification requires solid technical knowledge and I am very happy that the qualification is recognised along with the gold card. This helps qualify all the effort and hard work that went into gaining the qualification!”

What does this qualification bring to the table?

This ‘Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Verification of Ground Gas Protection Systems’ qualification enables verifiers within the ground gas sector to be represented fairly and correctly and finally have a card which represents this skillset.

As a Trade Association representing its members across the preservation industry, we are really pleased to have achieved support and recognition for the ground gas verification sector. We look forward to seeing more of our members taking full advantage of this once qualified.

Why you should get yourself a CSCS card?

The CSCS cards provide proof of training and qualification and ensure the workforce on site are appropriately qualified, therefore improving standards and safety on UK construction sites. Whilst this is not a legal requirement, most principal contractors and major housebuilders do require construction workers to hold a valid CSCS card to work on a site.

So how do you get one? Once you have your ‘Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Verification of Ground Gas Protection Systems’ qualification, you will be able to apply for the CSCS ‘Gold Skilled Card’ and ensure your skills are recognised further.

Interested? Want to know more about the NVQ?

The ‘Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Verification of Ground Gas Protection Systems’ is aimed at experienced specialists who wish to become third-party verifiers of gas proof membrane installation.

If you are an experienced practitioner who is active in planning, implementing, and reporting verification processes, or, occupationally experienced in gas membrane installation and workplace supervision in the ground gas sector – then this is for you.

Independent testing and verification of Ground Gas installations is an important and valuable role, where a high-quality install is imperative. The degree and intensity of independent verification should reflect the assessed level of risk, the nature of the gas protection system, the quality of the product(s) and the competence of the installer.
